Ambassador Barnes

Liberia’s recalled Ambassador to the United States Nathaniel Barnes has broken silence.
Ambassador Barnes disclosed he was recalled by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in line with her constitutional rights and nothing else.
Ambassador Barnes told reporters the President has the right to recall, dismiss or re-assign any of her appointees because they serve at her will and pleasure.
The recalled Liberian Ambassador dismissed reports that he was sent for because of his alleged involvement in a lobbying spree for the opposition in the US.
Commenting on his delay to arrive in the country following the president’s mandate, Ambassador Barnes said it was based on personal issues.
On the much publicized consultation between him and President Sirleaf, Ambassador Barnes refused to speak to the matter.
He however told journalists the President informed him that she exercised her privileges under Article fifty six of the Liberian Constitution by recalling him.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Barnes has expressed optimism over the opportunity afforded him by Madam Sirleaf to serve as the country’s Ambassador to the US.
The former Ambassador said it was an incredible experience for him as an opposition candidate and declared he respects the judgment of the President.
He named the removal of economic sanctions and the restoration of the country’s image in the comity of nations as some of his achievements.
