The Gabriel Kpolleh faction of the Liberia Unification Party has written the National Elections Commission asking it to retract its merger pronouncement.
The party said claims by the National Elections Commission that LUP has formally merged with the ruling Unity Party are baseless and unacceptable.

In a separate statement the party says it is taken aback by the NEC pronouncement and described it as unilateral.

According to the statement the NEC incorporated LUP into LAP and UP without due process.

The party equates the merger pronouncement to a well calculated political mischief to disenfranchise LUP in the pending 2011 elections.

In the letter, the party reminded NEC that its merger pronouncement has in no way affected LUP’s normal political activities.
