A twenty-five-year-old man has reportedly committed suicide in a police cell in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
According to our correspondent, Emmanuel Flomo was arrested for allegedly stealing sneakers and placed in police custody.
Our correspondent says he was later found hanging dead the next morning.suspended by own jeans trouser.
But his father claimed Emmanuel was alleged murdered by police officers on duty at the time.
Mr. Joseph Flomo told reporters there was no jury set up to examine the body of his son to establish the facts surrounding his death.
When contacted, Nimba County police Chief Superintendent Titoe Lodyne said an investigative panel was set up to find out the cause of Emmanuel’s death.
Our correspondent says the panel includes a representative from the government hospital in Sanniquellie.
Chief Superintendent Lodyne said it was concluded that he committed suicide by using his own trouser to hang himself.
Chief Superintendent Lodyne however acknowledged that the examination was carried out in the absence of Mr. Flomo when he had gone to call family members.
Chief Superintendent Lodyne said Emmanuel was a notorious criminal in Sanniquellie .
Police Chief Lodyne said those officers on duty when the incident occurred have been sent to the headquarters of the LNP in Monrovia for further investigation.
