As the date for the commencement of voter registration in the lead-up to the 2011 Presidential and Legislative elections draws closer, the National Elections Commission (NEC) continues to attract the visitation of key partners of Liberia democracy drive. Source: allAfrica News
According to a NEC release, a four man American Embassy delegation, headed by Amb. Linda Thomas Greenfield paid a working visit to the Commission on November 18, 2010 to discuss issues centering on mutual understanding.
The NEC release said the discussion mainly focused on issues regarding the successful conduct of the 2011 Legislative and Presidential elections.
As a major development partners of Liberia , the US Government is providing US$17 Million electoral assistance grant for a five year democracy building initiative in Liberia . The Fund which is being supervised by the United States Aid for International Development (USAID) is being implemented by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the NEC release said.
In a related development, the UNMIL Deputy SRSG for Recovery and Governance, Mr. Moustapha Soumare, who is also involved with the management of the 2011 Electoral Basket Fund, paid a visit to the NEC and discuss the status of funding support to the Commission, the NEC release concluded.
