The Global Environment Facility, an international organization, has provided nearly three million Dollars to fight coastal erosion in Liberia.
According to UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative for programs the money will be used for coastal defense in three counties.
Madam Maria Keating named the areas as Buchanan in Grand Bassa, Monrovia in Montserrado and Robertsport in Grand Cape Mount.
Madam Keating said the areas were chosen because of the aggressive nature of erosion there.
She said support for the battle against coastal erosion in other affected areas will depend on the success of what she described as a pilot project in the three counties.
She spoke to Star Radio at the just ended Coastal Defense Workshop held in Monrovia.
It was organized by UNDP, in collaboration with government, with funding from the Global Environment Facility, GEF.
