Liberia: Health Ministry says Lebanese, Fulani refusing polio vaccine

The Health and Social Welfare Ministry has reported the alleged refusal of foreign nationals in the country to allow their children take the polio vaccine.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bernice Dahn did not give reasons for the alleged refusal by the foreign nationals, but said it raises serious concerns.

Dr. Dahn named Fulani, Lebanese and some diplomats as foreign nationals in the forefront of rejecting the polio vaccine.

The Chief Medical Officer cited the 5th round of polio campaign which ran from October 29 to November 2 as a case in point.

According to Dr. Dahn, government attaches seriousness to the eradication of polio from the country and called on citizens and residents within Liberia’s borders to cooperate.

Meanwhile, government has announced the start of the 6th round of polio eradication campaign which runs from November 25th to the 29th.
